WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THERAPY

Your custom treatment is underpinned by well-researched mental health theories such as…

  • Attachment is a relationship theory involving secure and insecure attachment patterns. Many behaviors can be understood by exploring patterns of connection/disconnection to attachment figures. For adults, attachment-focused therapy can lead to building better relationships. For children and families, attachment-focused therapy supports healthier attachment patterns for children and healthier parenting strategies.

  • The field of mental health has expanded significantly with increased research and resources on trauma-informed care. With all clients, we seek to understand the impact of recent or past trauma on current daily functioning in the brain and body. All of our therapy approaches include curiosity and care for the possible effects of trauma.

  • The way you relate to yourself and others can be important to consider as we address your problems and concerns with you. Knowingly or not, people often take on roles in their families. Individuals also can have various and conflicting roles even within themselves. Knowing these roles and dynamics can help our work together.

  • Child & Teen Only

In all approaches with children and teens we consider chronological, cognitive, social, and emotional developmental factors. With this approach, we consider developmental tasks and tensions and how they may be impacting presenting concerns.

  • Child & Teen Only

Research has shown that early trauma affects parts of the brain that were actively developing during the trauma. It is important that treatment and interventions seek to first address and ‘organize’ your child’s neural networks affected by early trauma. The Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics © (NMT) is an approach focused on clinical problem solving to plan appropriate treatments in a purposeful order.

We create a custom approach to your treatment which may include, but is not limited to…

  • Sessions could involve the use of walks, art, music, nature, and animals. Including experiential and creative techniques can create new avenues of communication in your session. This approach can also build insight and empathy as you engage the senses and create new patterns in the brain and body.

  • This is an evidenced-based approach that has the potential to be more short-term. Conversations involve solving problems by exploring thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Often there are concepts to learn and homework activities to build skills.

  • Adult & Teen Only

This approach is collaborative and compassionate. The therapist will help you with the discovery and telling of your own story, with a focus on the concepts of voice and power.

  • Adult & Teen Only

This is a therapy that has combined elements of theories based on emotion, attachment, affect interpersonal neurobiology, body focus, and transformational studies. During your session, your therapist will engage you with in-the-moment experiences as you move toward desired healing and change.

  • Adult & Teen Only

This is a skills-based type of cognitive behavioral therapy that provides practical tools to help clients with emotion regulation, mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance.

  • Children Only

Play is an important form of communication and processing emotion for children. Even older children and pre-teens will utilize imaginative play to engage in more complex inner experiences and emotions. During this kind of therapy, your child’s therapist will use purposeful interactions to connect with your child and facilitate therapeutic growth.
